The argument in favor of using filler text goes something like this: If you use any real content in the Consulting Process anytime you reach.

The title tag is the line of text that appears as the clickable heading in search results. It is not the headline on your page, and it is not the same as your meta description underneath. It is a short, plain-text label that tells both search engines and searchers what a specific page is about.
For a specialist small business, this matters more than it does for a large retailer. You are not trying to compete on every term in your industry. You are trying to be found by the small number of people who need exactly what you do — a harp restorer, a listed-building surveyor, a mobile dog groomer covering one county. A well-written title tag helps those people recognise you quickly.
You will find title tags in most website platforms under an SEO or page settings tab. Look for a field labelled "SEO title", "page title" or "browser title". If you are unsure, ask whoever built your site to show you where to edit it.
Put your main phrase near the front of the title. Searchers scan the first few words, and search engines give them slightly more weight. If someone is looking for "wedding cake maker Bristol", a title of "Bristol wedding cake maker | Small-batch, gluten-free" tells them immediately that they are in the right place.
Choose the phrase by thinking about how a customer would describe your service, not how you would describe it internally. Useful prompts:
Try to use one natural phrase rather than a string of near-synonyms. "Bespoke joinery, custom carpentry, woodwork services" reads like a list of keywords and puts people off. One clear phrase plus a supporting detail will always outperform a crammed version.
The second half of the title is where you earn the click. Once the main phrase is in place, add something specific and true that helps the searcher decide. This is often a qualification, a specialism, or a practical reassurance.
Compare these two:
The second gives a genuine reason to choose that page over a competitor. It does not claim to be the best, the cheapest or the leading anything. That restraint matters. Words like "best", "number one" and "award-winning" are either unverifiable or ignored, and they waste precious characters.
Good click reasons for a small specialist business tend to be concrete: turnaround times, a niche accreditation, the fact you work with a particular client group, or a service most competitors do not offer. If you are not sure what yours is, look at the last five enquiries you received and note what each person asked about first.
Google typically shows around 55 to 60 characters on a desktop result before cutting the text short with an ellipsis. On mobile it can be fewer. Aim for that range, but treat it as a guide rather than a rule — a slightly longer title that reads well is better than a chopped one that reads badly.
Putting your business name at the end is a sensible default: "Bookkeeping for therapists | Your name here". It reinforces recognition when someone sees you twice in a week, and it stops your title reading like an anonymous directory listing. If your brand name is long, consider whether it earns its space on interior pages. On the homepage it usually does; on a service page, the service phrase matters more.
A few practical details:
Duplicate or near-duplicate titles across pages make it harder for search engines to work out which page should rank, and harder for a visitor to tell them apart. If you run a small site with a service page for each thing you do, give each one its own phrase: "Piano tuning in Bath", "Piano restoration in Bath", "Piano hire for events in Bath". Each is clearly different.
For niche service providers working in a defined area, a location in the title is usually worth the characters. It filters out irrelevant clicks and brings in people who can actually use you. If you cover several towns, create a genuine page for each rather than stuffing three place names into one title — the visitor from the second town deserves information relevant to them.
Before you set a title tag, read it aloud and ask yourself these questions:
If you can answer yes to all five, you have a title tag doing its job. Write them for your most important pages first, then work through the rest over a few weeks. Treat titles as something to revisit every year or so — your services shift, your specialisms sharpen, and your titles should keep pace.
