The argument in favor of using filler text goes something like this: If you use any real content in the Consulting Process anytime you reach.

When you run a specialist business — a piano tuner, a listed-building surveyor, a mobile dog groomer covering three postcodes — the keyword tools can lead you astray. They rank terms by monthly searches, and the biggest numbers rarely belong to the people most likely to hire you. Someone typing "how do shorthaired cats groom themselves" is searching for information. Someone typing "cat grooming near me" wants to book an appointment. Both contain the word "grooming", but only one of them pays your bills.
Search intent is simply the reason behind a query. Get it right and your pages attract people who are ready to act. Get it wrong and you spend months chasing traffic that bounces within seconds. The good news is that intent is not mysterious. You can classify almost every query you care about into one of three buckets, then match the format and the call to action to what the searcher actually wants.
Informational queries are questions. The searcher wants to understand something: "what causes damp in a Victorian cellar", "how often should a saxophone be serviced", "is a thatched roof expensive to insure". They are not ready to buy, but they are often close to the beginning of a decision that ends with a purchase.
Commercial queries are comparisons and evaluations. The searcher is weighing options: "best wood burner for a small cottage", "wedding photographer prices Lake District", "repointing versus rendering". They have a problem and they are deciding who or what will solve it.
Navigational queries are destination searches. The searcher already knows what they want and is looking for a specific business, brand or page: "Hillside Vets opening hours", "Bramley & Sons login". These are the hardest to win unless it is your name being typed, but they matter enormously once you have customers, because they are how existing clients find you again.
A single business can serve all three. A specialist chimney sweep might publish an informational guide on creosote, a commercial page comparing sweep costs, and a navigational contact page. The trick is not to mix them up on one page.
You do not need expensive software to spot intent. The language gives it away. Look for these signals:
For a niche provider, the most valuable queries are usually the long, specific commercial ones: "listed building structural survey Cotswolds", "emergency locksmith for upvc doors Sheffield". They have low volume by national standards, but the person typing them needs exactly what you sell, in exactly the place you sell it. Ten of those a month can transform a small business.
Once you know the intent, choose the format that satisfies it. Mismatches are the most common reason a well-written page fails to rank or convert.
A practical rule: if a searcher arrives expecting an answer and finds a sales pitch, they leave. If they arrive ready to buy and find a 2,000-word essay, they also leave. Format is not decoration — it is the match between expectation and delivery.
Build your keyword list by grouping terms into the three buckets before you write anything. For each group, ask three questions: what does this person already know, what do they want next, and what single action should this page encourage?
Then prioritise. For most specialist small businesses, commercial intent keywords deserve the best real estate on your site — your main service pages — because they convert fastest. Informational keywords deserve a blog or resource section, where they build trust and capture people earlier in their decision. Navigational keywords deserve a polished contact and booking experience, because ignoring them wastes customers you have already earned.
One more habit worth forming: search your own target phrases and read the top results. If the first page is full of comparison articles, that is what the search engine believes the searcher wants. You can still win by doing it better, more specifically and with genuine local knowledge — the kind that national content farms simply cannot fake. For a niche provider, that specificity is your greatest advantage. Use intent to aim it properly, and your keywords will start bringing you the right people rather than merely more of them.
